How to be Back-To-School Ready

Heading back-to-school can be a tough transition for your child. As the parent, you can help make this time easier for them - and here at Bright Bean we’ve made it even easier for you by collecting some tips on how you can be back-to-school ready!

Stay Positive

Your little one might be feeling more nerves as the school year gets closer. This is normal with any new situation in ones life - it takes time for children to adjust to a new schedule and setting. When your child seems nervous take some time to remind them that everyone feels a little nervous about the first day of school and it’s okay to be nervous sometimes. Help them focus on the positive aspects about heading back to school; seeing old friends, making new friends, getting new school supplies, and enjoying different activities.

Set Up Routines

The best way to calm nerves for your child is to develop a routine for them. Consistency is so beneficial for children as it helps them feel grounded, loved and seen. Some ideas to help develop a healthy routine would be to set up a good sleep schedule for them. Making sure your child is well rested will help them to feel more prepared for school. Make notes for them regarding important information, such as their locker number, their homeroom number, their teachers name, etc. Set up a space at home for their backpacks, this will make it easier for them to find their bags in the morning and not feel as scattered. Once again it's normal to be anxious heading back to school, but developing a strong routine for them will give them the confidence to tackle the day ahead.

Homework

Set up and area or station for your child to do their homework. Your child’s bedroom should be a place where they can relax and unwind from the day, so try not to have them do their homework in their room. Perhaps have them work at the kitchen table or dining room. Try your best to create a space where they can do their work with little to no distractions.

As you prepare your child for Back-To-School remember to take your time and to patient not only with your child but with your self too. You’ve got this!
